ဂျွန် အိုကဲလ်

ဂျွန် အိုကဲလ် (John Okell) သည် လန်ဒန်တက္ကသိုလ်၊ အရှေ့တိုင်းနှင့် အာဖရိကလေ့လာရေးကျောင်း (SOAS) မှ တွဲဖက် သုတေသီတစ်ဦးဖြစ်သည်။ မြန်မာဘာသာစကားနှင့် ယဉ်ကျေးမှုတွင် ကမ္ဘာ့ထိပ်တန်း ဦးဆောင်ပညာရှင်ထဲမှ တစ်ဦးဖြစ်သည်။ ဆရာကြီး ဂျွန် အိုကဲသည် အောက်စဖို့ဒ်တက္ကသိုလ် တွင် ဂန္ထဝင်စာပေကို လေ့လာသင်ယူခဲ့သည်။ ထို့နောက် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံသို့ မြန်မာစာပေသင်ယူရန် မသွားမီ SOAS တွင် အာရ်. ကေ. စပရစ်ဂ် (R. K. Sprigg) နှင့် အခြား ဘာသာဗေဒပညာရှင်များထံတွင် ဆက်လက်လေ့လာဆည်းပူးသည်။ ဆရာကြီးရွှေပြည်ဦးဘတင် စသူတို့ထံတွင် မြန်မာစာပေကို ဆည်းပူးခဲ့ဖူးသူဟု ဆိုကြသည်။ မြန်မာသဒ္ဒါကျမ်း နှစ်တွဲကိုလည်း ရေးသားခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၈၉ ခုနှစ်တွင် အက်ပဲလ် ကွန်ပျူတာများတွင် အသုံးပြုရန် 'Ava Laser' Font ကိုပြုစုပေးခဲ့သည်။ လန်ဒန်တက္ကသိုလ်တွင် တွဲဖက်သုတေသီအဖြစ် ဆောင်ရွက်လျက်ရှိပြီး မြန်မာစာပေကို ပို့ချခဲ့သည်။ သူ့အား မြန်မာအမည် ဦးလှသိန်း၊ ကိုအုတ်ခဲ စသည့် နာမည်များဖြင့်သိကြသည်။

ဂျွန်အိုကယ်ကို အင်္ဂလန်တောင်ပိုင်း ဘရိုက်တန် ကမ်းခြေမြို့၌ ၁၉၃၄ က မွေးခဲ့ပြီး အောက်စဖို့ဒ်တက္ကသိုလ် ဘုရင်မကောလိပ်တွင် ရောမနဲ့ ဂရိ ဂန္ထဝင်စာပေများ သင်ကြားခဲ့သည်။ ထို့နောက် ၁၉၅၉တွင် လန်ဒန်တက္ကသိုလ် အရှေ့တိုင်းနှင့် အာဖရိကပညာရပ်များကျောင်း၌ မြန်မာစာ ပါမောက္ခ ဒေါက်တာလှဘေထံတွင် မြန်မာစာ ကို တစ်နှစ်ခွဲ သင်ယူခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၆ဝ တွင် ဂျွန်အိုကယ်သည် မြန်မာပြည်သို့ ရောက်ရှိပြီး မြန်မာစာနှင့် ယဉ်ကျေးမှုများကို ဆက်လက်ဆည်းပူးခဲ့သည်။ ထိုခေတ်က ရန်ကုန်မြို့တွင် မြန်မာစကား ပြောဖို့ကြိုးစားတိုင်း လူတွေက အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုသာ ပြန်ပြောကြသဖြင့် မြန်မာပြည် အထက်ပိုင်းတွင် သွားသင်ခဲ့ရသည်ဟု ဂျွန်အိုကယ်က သူ့၏ မြန်မာစာသင်ခရီးကို ၂ဝဝ၆ က မြန်မာလေ့လာရေး ဘူလက်တင် စာစောင်တွင် ရေးသားထားသည်။

လန်ဒန်တက္ကသိုလ် မြန်မာစာဌာနမှူးအဖြစ် ဆောင်ရွက်ခဲ့သော ဂျွန်အိုကယ်သည် ၂၀၂၀ ခုနှစ် ဩဂုတ်လ (၃) ရက်နေ့ လန်ဒန်မြို့တွင် ကွယ်လွန်ခဲ့သည်။ ဂျွန်အိုကယ်သည် အသက် (၈၆) နှစ် အရွယ် မကွယ်လွန်မီ တလခန့် အထိ ကျောင်းသားများအား မြန်မာစာ သင်ကြားပေးသွားခဲ့သည်။
