  • Words of Late Antiquity and Atticist words of Byzantine literature, such as ἀθεμιτογαμία (athemitogamiā, "unlawful marriage").
  • Names, such as Αγησίλαος (Agēsilaos, "Agesilaus") and Σωκράτης (Sōkratēs, "Socrates").
  • Hellenized Latin and Hebrew names, such as Ἰουστινιανός (Justinian), Αὐρήλιος (Aurelius) and Ίωσήφ (Joseph).
  • Words that have remained unchanged throughout the history of the Greek language such as θάλασσα (thalassa, "sea") and ἄνθρωπος (anthrōpos, "man"). Their meaning may be the same.
  • Newly coined scientific (or not) words from Ancient Greek roots, such as haemophilia and astronaut.
