Buddha of infinite light and life from Japan, on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sculpted by three individuals -- Kōshun (lead sculptor), Kōshin, and Jōshun -- at the Shitennōji Temple Osaka, Japan, it was completed in just 31 days in 1269. The statue is hollow; inside was a document indicating that several donors had come together to create karma by commissioning the work. A copy of the text Amida Sutra was also found inside.
This buddha represents the Amida Nyorai (known in India as Amitābha), a buddha who will welcome the dead into the Pure Lands.
