ကဆစ်ပင်သည် အင်္ဂလိပ်အမည်မှာ Bitter cucumber ဖြစ်ပြီး မျိုးစု (Genus)မှာ Cucumis ဖြစ်သည်။ မျိုးစိတ် (Species) မှာ Trigonus ဖြစ်ပြီး မျိုးရင်း (Family)မှာ Cucurbitaceae ဖြစ်သည်။ တဆစ်ဟုလည်း ခေါ်သည်။ ကဆစ်သီးသည် သခွားသေးသေး၊ ကြယ်လိပ် ကလေးများနဲ့တူပြီး အညာတွင် အလေ့ကျ ပေါက်သည်။
